Rabbit Air BioGS AC Charcoal filter for models SPA-421A and SPA-582A

Love the Rabbit, HATE this filter!
This filter is the one bad part of the system. I have not really noticed the bad smell, but the plastic piece came loose and much of the charcoal escaped. A poor construction on a otherwise good system.

Works great! Is also refillable.*
This is the best carbon filter on the market, pellets work much better then mesh (such as winix carbon filters).

These filters are actually REFILLABLE, I refill mine every couple months(probably overkill). Use a knife and carefully pry the top cover off, it is spot glued. Once off then I discard the used carbon and refill with new carbon(kinda tedious but well worth it). I use carbon from bulkreefsupply.com for only $10 for half gallon/1.5lbs (special grade bituminous carbon). I get about 5 refills per container(for only $10!) I then use small zip ties to reinstall the cover.(theres probably a better/easier way but dont have the time to create one). Let me know if anyone has any better ideas than this. (All n all 5 refills for $10 or replace for 29.95 X 5 = $149.75)

(Ps I am not affiliated with bulkreefsupply.com, research shows they have very high quality carbon for the price)

As far as cleaning it - the most effective way to re activate carbon is...

Not washable
Has this sweet almost acrid odor after washing. I rinsed mine in plain water but I couldn't seem to get rid of the smell. My 2 star rating is in reference to the life of the filter and the fact that I don't believe this product performs well after washing. The filter before washing functions fine. I love my Rabbit Air purifier (its greatly reduced my multiple cat allergies), not a fan of the Charcoal filter.
